Davidson

Located 20 miles north of Charlotte, N.C., Davidson is a small college town with engaged and active citizens who care deeply about their community. They have a mayor, Board of Commissioners, manager and staff, all dedicated to providing residents with a splendid quality of life. They are home to Davidson College, with a certified arboretum and remarkable students who contribute to the life of the town. Amenities and Diversity

The Davidson main street has shops, wide sidewalks, a community library and flowers everywhere. The town green is used for pick-up football games, play dates, festivals, croquet matches and outdoor concerts. Davidson is built for pedestrians and bike riders, not for the car. No drive-thrus are allowed here. The community believes in connectivity and walkable streets. Davidson is passionate about diversity: They require that 12.5% of all new development is affordable to encourage all types of homes and all types of citizens.

Davidson is the 2004 Smart Growth Award winner for Overall Excellence in town planning and design.
