Hearing of this treachery, the remaining Cabarrus Black Boys fled to Georgia where they remained in hiding for four yews.

SEPARATION FROM MECKLENBURG COUNTY
Cabarrus County was founded in 1792 when its territory was separated from Mecklenburg County. It was named in honor of Stephen Cabarrus, Speaker of the House of Representatives, who cast the deciding vote that created the county. It is located in the Piedmont Section of North Carolina, almost midway between Washington, D.C. and Atlanta, Georgia on U.S. Highway 601, 29 and Interstate 85 and State Highways 49 and 73.

Cabarrus County covers approximately 233,300 acres or 360 sq. miles of which much remains undeveloped. The remainder of the total acreage is classified as farmland which suggests an abundance of undeveloped land for the location of additional industry. The first gold discovered in the United States was in Cabarrus County in 1799.
